andy0075 9 1 Cars Posted December 31, 2007 Hello ! Is it necesarry to use other spark plugs in my engine ? Spec : XU9JAZ - now on 45 Weber - head skimmed 0,8mm - 300° cam with 12,5mm lift at TDC,..... First i used the ones which were built in befor i modified the engine : Bosch FR 7 DC+ After 500km the ceramic isolator of the spark plugs began to losen on all 4 plugs. Now i use Bosch Super 4 . Both are for the original XU9JAZ engine without modifications. So, do i need other plugs ? What are you using ? NGK, Bosch,..? !! happy new year !! welshpug 1,661 Posted December 31, 2007 Single electrode plugs seem to work better than others in the 8v head, try a colder plug (i.e a BCP8 instead of BCP7 IIRC) never had any trouble with NGK plugs, though all my engines are very much standard
DamirGTI 342 Posted December 31, 2007 Hi ! Another vote for that - try one grade colder plug ... NGK-s are very good quality plugs , im currently using one step colder plug in my modified 1.9 engine and it works just fine no probs what so ever ... Cheers ! andy0075 9 1 Cars Posted January 1, 2008 thanks folks! I try NGK next time. I only have heard good things about them. @Damir : one step colder means : NGK-S........type ? Andy
James_R 3 Posted January 1, 2008 I've always found BCP8ES's to be fine or 7's if they prove too cold
