Dan Ingram 1 Posted December 27, 2007 Im trying to remove the old bushes out of my lower arms so I can replace them. Problem is im struggling to get them out. Does anyone have any handy tips to remove them without the aid of a press?
jonnie205 1 Posted December 27, 2007 very hard job, a press i have found no good as you cannot mount the arm. I oxtacetaline burn the rubber out then chisel, hit, saw the metal casings out
Super Josh 4 Posted December 27, 2007 (edited) I make up a press in situ I use a length of M12 studding and a couple of sockets. One with an O.D. around the same size as the bush and the other with an I.D. the size of the bush. Then bolt the whole lot together with a socket on each side of the trailing arm, a couple of nuts and a large washer on each side to spread the load and then just wind in the small socket so that if pushes the bush out into the inside of the other socket. Works a treat and then use the same technique to wind the new bush back in, after putting a little grease in the hole first. jonnie205 1 Posted December 27, 2007 good idea, i use tooling like that on escorts but never tried it on a 205 bush
nick 3 Posted December 27, 2007 Drill the rubber out as much as you can then whack the middle ring out with a small socket on an extension, then just hacksaw through the outer ring and whack that out with a chisel. Nick
