James_R 3 Posted December 20, 2007 I'm after the rod length of the XU7J4 engine, seeing how different it is to a Mi rod, also if anyone has the info the small end size on them would be handy (I'm assuming the big end is the same as normal. Thanks

Sandy 191 Posted December 20, 2007 150.5mm between centres. Small end is 22mm interference fit (not bushed). But the big end uses a 45mm journal, not the 50mm of bigger XU engines inc Mi16

pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted December 20, 2007 150.5mm between centres. Small end is 22mm interference fit (not bushed). But the big end uses a 45mm journal, not the 50mm of bigger XU engines inc Mi16 So there is very little difference between the XU7 & XU5 rods. XU5 rods; rod length 150mm stroke 73mm r/s ratio = 2.05 0.5mm difference in rod length (assuming the 150mm I posted for the XU5 rod is centre to centre), they have the same size big end & little ends. Baz 421 Posted December 21, 2007 (edited) But is the .5mm get-away-with-able? Not the thread content I was expecting me neither! -mine's bigger than yours... Edited December 21, 2007 by BazGTMi

Baz 421 Posted December 21, 2007 fatter gasket baz.... Have you now?... lol, i didn't think about that, but yes of course! So also, you could use any other Xu rod (150mm) in an Xu7 block to lose some CR? Ahh, but i spose from what Sandy said it wouldn't fit the crank... D'oh! Sandy 191 Posted December 21, 2007 XU5 and XU7 rods are the same part and definitely 150.5mm between centres.
James_R 3 Posted December 23, 2007 Thanks for the info guys, shame it's not easily possible to bush the rods for a 22-23mm floating pin though NExt question, anyone know the absolute TDC valve clearance on the XU7J4??
