Has anyone tried or heard of this light weight 3.4kg alloy flywheel? Any comment?

Fidanza doesn't do alloy flywheel for Mi, but KAD does now. Have seen KAD's ad on magazine before but not about flywheel, so would like to hear some comments.

thanks.

Aluminium flywheels *sometimes* loosen their bolts if unchecked. Not my ideal.

Won't comment specifically on the flywheel, but I will say that KAD are a very well known and well respected company in the Mini tuning circles, they have produced an aftermarket 16v cylinder head for a Mini engine, so a flywheel probably isn't stretching their engineering abilities too much.

Do they use the head off a BMW motorbike for that or something?

No, the BMW bike head conversion is a more recent thing using a existing BMW head modified to fit a modified mini block.

The KAD 16v head was developed in the mid 90's and is a bespoke aftermarket head designed to bolt straight to the Mini block without any machining required. Its a nice piece of kit, the drag race mini I have built and drive uses this cylinder head, it is similar in design layout to a Ford BDA.

Well it won't fit a Mi16 engine really as the add as per normal is very miss-leading, I had to stop a customer buying one of these because it's missing the teeth for the engine speed sensor, so it's only any use if you have carb's or running the 8v ECU

My alloy flywheel worked loose and fell off destroying the end of the crank and the twin plate clutch, All the engine builders i have spoken to since have told me to avoid them as alloy and steel expand at different rates and over time cause the bolts to work loose.
