Jrod 7 Posted December 19, 2007 Right well I have myself some 20mm torsion bars to fit. Main question is how much shorter should I make the dummy shock than standard to compensate for the extra stiffness? Anyone had any practice or shall I just do the same as I did with my 23mm... trial and error.
Sandy 191 Posted December 19, 2007 It depends what height you want. Try 300mm.
Jrod 7 Posted December 19, 2007 Standard ride height.
Super Josh 4 Posted December 19, 2007 Standard ride height. I think that I went with 310 between centres when using 20mm TBs. I can check tonight if you like Josh
Jrod 7 Posted December 19, 2007 Would be great to save me the hassle of having to check and recheck (as its fookin freezing!)
RossD 44 Posted December 20, 2007 Going a bit offtopic, where did you manage to find the 20mm bars?
Anthony 1,003 Posted December 20, 2007 As per Josh's reply above, I'd start somewhere around 310mm for standard ride height with 20mm TB's
Jrod 7 Posted December 20, 2007 (edited) I swapped them for some 23mm ones I had. You can get them from special tuning and 205 parts though. I'm hoping they should make for good fast road/rally along with the challenge shocks and springs. Just not sure what to do about rear ARB....19mm 25mm or something inbetween. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted December 20, 2007 Just not sure what to do about rear ARB....19mm 25mm or something inbetween. Skip Brown uses a 23mm arb with 20mm torsion bars as part of their phase 2 suspension kit. I've got some 22mm bars & will be using a 24mm arb with them on a 309 beam when I get round to putting them on. Graham.
Jrod 7 Posted December 30, 2007 (edited) Well I've set it to 310 and it looks to low at the moment. I've got challenge spec springs on the front so maybe they have raised it up a bit from standard so I will raise it a bit at the back. Just had a look at the PTS build guide and it says 315mm for forest so I will try that. Edited December 30, 2007 by Jrod

Jrod 7 Posted December 30, 2007 They are 185lb standard height as used in the 205 challenge, thus the name.
Super Josh 4 Posted December 31, 2007 They are 185lb standard height as used in the 205 challenge, thus the name. Do you know the rate for the standard springs J? Josh
RossD 44 Posted January 1, 2008 (edited) Standard GTi spring rate is about 155 - 160 lb/in at the front. 18.9mm torsion bars are approx 118lb/in. Edited January 1, 2008 by RossD
jord294 92 Posted January 1, 2008 i'm interested to know how to make up a dummy adjustable shock. is there any possibility someone can post up diagram and instructions please? could do with giving it a go, as i'd like to have experience setting the ride height. cheers

Jrod 7 Posted January 1, 2008 My quick bodge one. It's a bit better than that pic now as I've improved it a little.
Jrod 7 Posted January 23, 2008 Just set it to 315 an it's spot on, somehow I managed to strip the thread in the trailing arm where the ARB bolts on. I've drilled and tapped it to M10 and it's secure, do you think this is fine to leave or I should look into getting a new trailing arm?

Super Josh 4 Posted January 24, 2008 If you've tapped it and it is held on securely then I think you'll be fine Josh
