Best Exhaust For Gti6 Conversion?

Recommended Posts

kate205gti

quick question please :P

who has a gti6 conversion on their 205 and what exhaust do you have? :P

i previously had a pugspares 4-2-1 manifold and magnex system on my mi16 engine, now have a gti6 engine (slightly tilted) and have been borrowing a mates custome exhaust but now need to give it back :P

im using the curly 6 exhaust manifold but ive been told there may be fitment issues with the magnex on a 6 engine, even with a shortened downpipe

whats everyone else running please? or any suggestions?

has to be shiney  nice sound, not too rudd, and pref pass a 98db noise test :P

I am looking into this too.

I have a PPM 'Custom' exhaust. It is made up of a 4 into manifold which runs back about as far as the gear stick. The main system is then made up of a mid box and then into a piper back box, which I assume was made to suit the car......

The mid box welds have cracked (for about the 5th time) and the baffles inside are rattling around. Recently I have been thinking about getting the DES group A system which seems to get good reviews, but I would need to get extra big silencers so that I am well within the 95db limit at the 'ring.

Make one

How i would be inclined to go about it :P

If you get hold of a decent down pipe and mid section, prefereably without the middle split in the down pipe, as they all seem to crumble. Then an afternoon of patience and welder can cut to fit properly.

Then just run your magnex back box for looks and abit of noise, but shouldn't be over the top to be turned away from track days.

Can pop down one evening in a couple of weeks and help :P

I tried starting a new group buy topic for a DES grp n system His price was "The exhaust is £225+VAT and the downpipe is £90+VAT" He said this exhaust on a standard engine will be under the 98 db limit. If we can get ten people the price will come down. Also he said the down pipe is a not off the shelf item. Its quite a lot of money but will be a good system. See what people think?

My mate has a Des exhaust on his mi16, with a centre silencer aswell as rear silencer. It's pretty well made, took some adjusting/re-welding to get it to fit right and stay on the brackets, but is good now. Pretty loud, not sure of Db it does though its a fair bit louder than the standard exhaust that rotted through....

I use the standard manifold, and have no problems at all, using a shortened gti6 decat with a flange welded on at the right place.

Iv got the des grp a twin box system on my mi16 and on static sound checks at combe im getting 99db so i would prob have problems at other thracks with it.

I'd go with the DES system if its not too far to get it fitted by them (free fitting for PSOOC members IIRC) seen a handful of these with no complaints and reports of good performance.

Ive had a good few chats with them, as i bought the group n system from them. Unfortunately the bafles went in the rear box, but was replaced hastle free. As they dont make them themselves, i cant blame them for that! But they paid all postage costs etc. Think the guys name is Neil. Only rang him to ask how my exhaust was doing, got off the phone an hour later! Really helpful. Hes just fitted the 2" system to a 200bhp mi16 with gains pretty much everywhere. So yeah, id go for one of them! The 2" also meets 98db noise limits.

im trying sort out an exhaust for my 6 conversion. looking at the omp inox but stil waiting on guy to get back to me to tell me the bore size, anyone know?

pip470 a direct fit would be nice but thats alot of money. powerflow full custom system would be cheaper that that im sure

I'm using the Omp inox system while my des is delivered back to me. It is a 2" bore. Who are you buying it from? If you could pm me if its someone from Ebay? I wont go into it on here, but just some warning if it is.

Chris.

I did think it was expensive and also theres an added compliation at the moment as the car needs to be taken to them to make the downpipe, as at the inu there is no of the shelf solution. I have not even considered powerflow because in my other thread "recomend me an exhaust fabricator" some one warned me not to use them, Im still looking into what the best sollution is. cheers phill

Having a custom one made by ashely in mild steel in a bore of your choosing would be about £300 from memory.

i need noise-test passing bwarrp and cheap  (so moon on a stick basically!)

i think £300 is a bit above my budget thou as unlikely i would get that for the magnex :D

I believe there are more than a few users on here who have 16v engine going BIG over 200 bhp and use a standard 1.9 exhaust, but of course they don't reply in this thread and also don't reply to PM's (at least on of them). I'll have a gti-6 conversion done by someone else hopefully in june and we agreed he would use the standard gti-6 manifold together with a modded 309gti16 exhaust (from downpipe to midsection) and my 1.9 Remus backbox. Hopefully it'll be fine. But if it makes too much noise I might add a cat to it. It's not for track only and I like it better when a silent cars suddenly has power in stead of a low powered car making noise like a jet fighter.

On my Gti-6 im using a 2" 205 scorpion stainless steel exhaust from the midbox back as that’s all I had knocking around at the time, I made the down pipe and reducer myself. Only makes 89db, nice and quiet ;) Don’t know if id have gained anything from going to a bigger bore but it didn’t noticeably restrict my engine either, 211bhp & 160lb/ft with a standard exhaust.

Ill be making a 2.25" system from the downpipe back and hopefully will be able to swap it at Emerald to see if theres any gains whilst being mapped.

im currently looking at exhausts too. i got a fabricator here to do mine, hes a top bloke http://www.hibexhausts.com/. he made a 2.5" pipe to the middle silencer and 2" pipe to the back box. The back box has now died, so wondering what to get. Everyone seems to like the DES system, so im gonna ring Neil and see whats best.

As said above he is VERY helpful.
