McPikie 0 Posted December 16, 2007 When the car is cold, it's fine, albeit with a stiff clutch pedal. But, when its warmed up, 30mins or more, it gets harder to get in gear. Feels much more clunky, and like I haven't pressed the clutch down enough

jord294 92 Posted December 17, 2007 i have exactly the same trouble with my car. i have the be1 gearbox, but tend to have more trouble getting into reverse
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted December 18, 2007 My STDT is like this atm, I've swapped the gearbox last week so oil level is fine & the clutch is adjusted OK. Clutch & oil are less than 20k old but I'm now going to fit a new cable as I don't know when it was last changed, if ever in its 160k+ life. I'm also going to check/replace the bushes in the L bracket just incase they are worn excessively allowing unwanted movement when it gets warmed by the turbo. Graham. DooBeDooBeDo 1 Posted December 18, 2007 My clutch got *really* heavy and gears were really crunchy before my clutch cable snapped, it had been heavier when warm for a while before it completely let go.
McPikie 0 Posted December 19, 2007 My clutch got *really* heavy and gears were really crunchy before my clutch cable snapped, it had been heavier when warm for a while before it completely let go. I got a "spare" cable in the boot when I bought it, but some of the faults I have found with the car, I trust the seller as much as Kate McCann as a baby sitter, so I will just buy a new one
Pob 1 Posted December 19, 2007 I got a "spare" cable in the boot when I bought it, but some of the faults I have found with the car, I trust the seller as much as Kate McCann as a baby sitter, so I will just buy a new one When I got my 205 the clutch was really heavy and notchy. It was down to the clutch cable been threaded round the engine bay incorrectly and getting a little stiff. Got a new cable from the motor factors, less than £9 alot smoother now Dan
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted December 20, 2007 I've been looking at my car today while it was running up to temp after fitting the new rad & I noticed that even though the clutch pedal doesn't sit particularly low compared to my GTi or the brake pedal it does feel very spongy. New clutch cable on order for tomorrow so I'll update the results once its fitted. Graham.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted January 4, 2008 As promised. an update on my progress for a smooth clunk free gear change. I fitted a new clutch cable, good timing as there were a few broken strands which weren't there when i swapped the gearbox only a few weeks ago & adjusted it up but that made very little difference. Now my clutch pedal is sat about 1" higher than the brake pedal (which isn't rigth imo) for me to be able to get the car into gear but it still balks occasinally & has to be rammed in. I'm almost 100% its a clutch issue on mine as it occasionally gives servere judder when moving off or feels to be grabbing when you are stood in trafic with the clutch pedal down. I'm mainly suspicious of my clutch & even though its only approx 15k old I'm getting a genuine Pug cover & a Valeo plate to fit soon. Everyting else in the gearchange is fine. Graham. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted January 19, 2008 A bit of an update for you Phil although possibly not what you want to hear. I've taken my gearbox off (again!!) today to check my clutch out after I bought a new orignal Peugeot clutch cover plate for an XUD7T engine from ebay for £7.50 & think I've found my problem. The clutch plate has a spring thats distintegrated & the whole plate centre isn't in the best condition. I've got a few Mi clutch plates here so I'll use one of those with the new cover but which of the two below? I have others but this is just a comparison picture, the one on the left has four springs (but with two smaller springs inside the red ones) all bigger than the six spring plate next to it. Both are Valeo & have similar amounts of life left in them. I'm thinking the le3ft plate is the better one but thats just because the springs are bigger & possibly stronger so this won't happen again in a years time. Graham. This happened to mine during the time I had a few problems due to no dowels in gearbox. The l/h plate in your pic. looks a lot more substantial than normal
