Squeaky Heater Fan

when i have my blower on full tilt it squeaks like a biatch :angry: not gonna bother trying to stop it as i thinks its the bearing so im going to replace it with a new one ;) what sort of a task is it to replace?? are we talking 10mins or 10 hours :) i was going to buy a haynes manual but havent got round to it yet :lol:

Mine squeaked like a bitch for four years until my mate sprayed some WD40 in it. I don't know if the fan is different on a GTI from a Rallye but if its the same it was easy to drop out from behind the centre console via the passenger footwell, just follow the squeak to find it.

 

I'd try spraying before buying a new one... Mine's been sqeak free for 6 months now...

Buy a new one from GSF, £40.

3 screws and it's out in about 3 minutes.

ta muchly for the replies,i think ill try the wd40 for now then get a new fan after christmas as the kids are draining my resources :)

i can never turn mine off even when the dial is on off and it squeaks.thats why im taking the dash board out and leaving it in the garage lol

Mines been doing the same and also was quite loud even when it stopped squeaking.

 

Swapped it with another fan an mmmmmmmmm is it quiet. :angry:

it's very easy to replace, or re grease and refit.

Going to do mine also, on both of mine, although mine dont really squeak , they sound like a nazi firing squad

take the fan out, turn upside down and drill a hole smack in the middle and drop some light oil (gun oil is ideal) down the hole. leave for a few hours upside down then refit it. should cure it a treat.
