Looking great will you be doing the southern tarmac chamionship? I help spanner for james in his corsa in that series that why i ask.

Is there any need to keep the old brace across the floor just seems like extra weight you dont need?

Cheers Dan

Yea done Longcross loads of times - one of my favourite venues with the "Snake" and "Tank Ramp".

Got some good pics taking off the tank ramp over the years...

Plan is to do the National tarmac championship when she's finished but this year (assuming the car gets finished) it will probably just be a couple of shake down local events.

Did you not like the newspaper effect paint job? :)

The outside is either going to be arctic silver or a bright red - still undecided

Interior paint is a gunmetal silver. Might do this over the Christmas period but there are a few brackets still to add and might yet cut out the rear floorpan for a custom fuel tank - before applying the top coat.

I think a Custom fuel tank is a good idea if the budget allows, half of the 205's at Rockinham suffered the phut phut phut "where's the bloody p power gone!!" fuel surge feeling through some chicanes and corners

Swirl pot works for me - just as alternative to custom tank, if it helps - mind you, still think a custom tank would be nice purely from the safety aspect.

Oh, and if you were thinking us on the "phut phut"ing :) that was a dodgy coil pack, not fuel related! Blinkin' things....

Looking good James - can't wait to see her back out there, been a long time off for you - you saved up for that sequential yet :) ?!

I've already got 4 fuel pumps and a swirl pot in there so no problems with fuel surge. Don't really need the custom tank it's just one of those "might as well do it whilst it's all in pieces" jobs I've always fancied doing. (plus as you say the safety aspect of having a foam filled fuel cell rather than std open tank)

It's been off the road for nearly a year now - last event in the old car was end of Jan this year and I was convinced it would have been back out on the stages by the end of this year. Alas the new house works have had to come first and a few changes as work mean that things haven't been progressing quite as fast as I'd hoped - like working pretty much 7 days a week for past 6 months!

Colin is going to do the front widetrack setup sometime in the Spring and my hope is to be back out in time for Abingdon in June.

The decision is whether to build it pretty much as it was before - just with a new shell - which could be accomplished with relative ease. OR go the full hogg and build the ultimate widetrack best of everything etc which takes 3 times the effort and 3 times the money.

Right now option one is very tempting but I've been planning this last stage of development for years now, saved the required funds and it would be a real shame to rush it just to get out competing again. (and I'll never end up building another one!)

Sequential box is not yet out of the question - all comes down to cashflow and during a credit crunch whether it's better to have money sat in the bank or in parts of a rally car!

Does one think with the head or heart....hmmmn

Can't wait to see this on the stages, do you ever do Longcross?

It was cool watching a 306 maxi Kitcar and loads of 8 and 16valve 205's showing the escorts and the like the way home (bar the Hyundai WRC car!) at Rockingham last weekend :)

Who runs the series? I'd like to get out and watch dome clubman rallying but rarely see any info on it.

Did you ever join a a motor club Rich? If not then do, and if so then have a look at their website/bumpf & stick your name down to do some marshalling etc and then you'll never get left alone!

Longcross is one where it definitely helps to be involved, its an old MOD site currently, so if you're not marshalling or with service crew/competitors you can't come in!

I'd love to build a Rally car, but I can just see myself wanting to take it to this kind of level, which definitely isn't cheap! ;)

Most events are the same these days tbh, It's just insurance/liabilities etc prohibitiove to run them as spec events, looking at it from an organising perspective anyway. Even down to the bottom rung of the clubman levels, Autocrossing, sprints etc. ;)

Hold thread resurgence, batman, I know. But what's happening with James of late? Are we going to see this car hit the stages again? Does he still have it?

Oh s*it. "A while"?! That's the last competition he'll be seeing for a while then ;-). Next will be dog, then kids, and by the time he can afford that sequential gearbox he'll be 65 with shot reflexes and no eyesight left ;)

(I'm just jesting James ;-) it was more a "join the club" comment really!).

Still here!

Now married, got the dog, extending the house, building a business and trying to finish off my offshore powerboat for some marathon racing next year....it's been a rather busy last 12 months!

My misus will happily sit in an airbourne boat with me at 70 mph but not a chance of getting her into the rally car!

Project maxi is tucked up out of the way for now, one day I'd like to finish it off but don't expect to see me out on the stages next season I'm afraid.

James

ps. yes the misus wanted a more "practical" car than her previous SLK so I talked her into a Prodrive tweaked Forester STI...not quite ready to settle down and have kids just yet.... average 16mpg lol!

Quality - thanks for the update :) presumably Baz gave you a prodding ;)

Shame about the car but, hey, you only live this life once so you do what floats your boat (no pun intended)... and if you can keep the missus happy along the way, even better.

I sat down tonight with a heavy heart...about to break the news that she was finally going up for sale. As with so many long-term, large-scale projects, momentum comes and goes, often a change in direction happens and they never see it through to the end. I've been off racing Land Rovers and building go-fast powerboats for the past few seasons so she's been sat tucked up in the workshop. I need to scale down the number of projects/toys I have and this one hasn't seen any attention for some time now so seemed like the obvious choice.

Made the mistake of re-reading the project thread and thought what the hell, how can I sell up!!

So the good news is that one day I WILL get around to building her, the bad news is I'm afraid there is nothing interesting to report on progress!

Thought this rant might inspire anyone struggling with a project which seems endless to stick at it as you'll kick yourself for throwing in the towel before having the satisfaction of seeing the finished article and saying 'I created that'.

I got my 205 back on the road this spring and took it to France on a road trip after a 9 years (incl marriage, buying a house, getting master degree and 3 kids, 2 house reconstruction projects later) rebuild project...

Can tell you; that is really rewarding. So don't give up, hang on and get the reward....
