For anyone who's interested, here are a few vids from the Brean Stages rally that we did last weekend.

Great way to say goodbye to the current car after 5 years of development...roll on the new car, can't wait to get back out there!

Should be a bit of a monster - certainly be interesting to see the end result and how much quicker it is in reality against the current car ;)

i think you should put it on track some time against the oh so famous 'bic'

Given that I was quicker round Rockingham at FCS '07 in my humble 8v 205 (atleast against whatever spec Bic's 106 was then) I really don't think that it's much of a benchmark and certainly very questionable value for money considering what I believe he's spent building it... ;)

Not much has been going on recently as we are in the process of moving house and I have bits of car spread across 3 properties, really need to get it all into one place and somehow find time to get on with it!

The custom ali rad finally arrived last week, looks really well made, just a shame it took so long to produce! Here are a couple fo pics...

I have semi stripped the old car and been painstakingly cleaning up bits as I go along. Want to try and end up with a load of parts ready to fit and then hit it in one go rather than bit by bit.

Just need to get around to working out the bottom arm lengths so Compbrake can make me up some custom arms. Then the front suspension can go on and it will be an official rolling shell!

i raced bic on my 1st ever track day at donnington and towards the end i was starting to catch up again and back then i had a standard 8v engine.

Hi Batfink,

Progress has been pretty slow over the last few 6 months as we've moved house, sold the workshop and bought somewhere with enough space to get everyting on one site. I've been doing loads of work to the house in order to keep her indoors happy which has unfortunately left little time for tinkering.

On a more positive note, I've got a week off in Sept, one in Oct and one in Nov with the aim to have her finished by Christmas. First event out will be at the end of January so keep an eye out for updates over the Autumn.

Cheers James

Sorry for the distinct lack of recent updates.

I am currently in the process of prepping the interior for paint. Should be going into the bodshop in the second week of December so paint will be done in time for the Christmas break.

17 inch wheels have been trial fitted (this time with proper rally tyres) and there is just about enough room.

Still deciding on the best way to get some even greater width on the lower front end. Adjustable arms arn't wide enough so we're looking at modifying the subframe.

I'll get a few updated pics up over the next few days.

are you on about the "Antares" arches he's had on before (though the fronts

were actually a wider version) or the Dimma kit he's got on the new car?

Thought it was about time I posted a few updated pictures showing the lastest works.....

The shell has been sat inside for the past 12 months but without paint on, has collected quite a bit of surface rust.

I've tried a selection of rust removing gels, wire cup brush, emery paper, wire brushes etc but nothing was working fast enough to allow me to strip it all in one period and get some paint on.

The only solution was going to be sandblast it.

Now I'm not sure how many have used this process before but its noisy, dusty and incredibly messy. The grit gets everywhere and can be a nightmare to clean up.

Anyway I bought 3 x 20kg tubs of grit, cleared out one of the garages, donned a selection of safety kit - ear plugs, goggles, face mask, gloves etc and set to work....

The grit can be reused about 10 times before becomming too fine to be abrasive.

5 days later and after more than 40 hours of prep, the cage and complete interior had been taken back to bare metal - ready for paint.

Despite much time with a hosepipe on the end of a commercial hoover, only 45kg of grit was recovered... so I assume the rest either turned to dust or is still stuck in all the darkest corners of the garage!

Here are the pics of progress.............

Once the blasting was finished, I then spent another 10 or so hours with a chisel, wire brush, emery paper etc tidying the welds, cleaning all the seams, keying all surfaces and making sure all traces of rust had been removed.

Then it was time to clean every surface and tube with panel wipe and tack rags to make sure no grit was left.

Next stage was then to fully mask the exterior bodywork - which would allow free movement with the airline/spray gun in and out of the car to get maximum coverage on all tubes and surfaces.

Once masked, there was a final clean of the garage, wipe down inside the car again with panel wipe and she was ready for paint.

More pics.......

Can't wait to see this on the stages, do you ever do Longcross?

It was cool watching a 306 maxi Kitcar and loads of 8 and 16valve 205's showing the escorts and the like the way home (bar the Hyundai WRC car!) at Rockingham last weekend

Finally with all the prep done, it was time to mix the primer and get a coat on.....

Here are some pics of the first coat finished - not a bad effort for first time trying to cover so many angles at once!

The first pic is my new screensaver

Very impressive, i love a good weld in cage! Makes a change from seeing all the nasty bolt in ones usually associated with 205s.
