Will you be at Abingdon on the saturday or just turning up on the Sunday? I have camped over before when doing the sprint but unsure of my plans this year although looking at the rally entry, loads of WRC cars etc I may camp and make full use of the beer tent+bbq :)

Hi wayne - much head scratching went into deciding where to mount the second fuel pump , there isn't much room left in the engine bay so we decided to put it on top of the battery tray for now. Should make it easy to see if there are any leaks.

Hi Sam,

 

There's 2 fuel pumps in the system.

 

Low pressure facet pump feeds fuel from the main tank up to a swirl pot in the engine bay.

 

A high pressure Systec pump then feeds the fuel into the rail from the swirl pot.

 

From the end of the fuel rail, it flows through the regulator set to 5 bar and then back into the swirl pot.

 

There is then a feed back to the main tank from the top of the swirl pot for any over-flow.

 

The system basically compensates for fuel surge by always having the litre of reserve fuel sitting in the engine bay ready for demanding corners.

The engine install is now finished....just got to do the airbox and scoop when the filter arrives.

Wheel arches are back on, had to raise them up a bit from original position to allow clearance of new 8inch wide wheels.

Took it out for a quick spin yesterday to test the modified gear linkage, (we live in the middle of nowhere on lanes such as you would find up in the heart of wales so quite bumpy) it was the most scary experience I've ever had in a car!

 

I've had some pretty quick cars in the past and even compared to my mum's 996 carrera 4 this thing is absolutely mental!

It was squirming up the road instantly spinning up the wheels in 3rd - nearly put it in a ditch in second gear from the torque steer and grabbing diff! I was shaking when I got out of it. Not sure whether to be delighted or absolutely petrified!

HAHA, Sounds mental James. That is a hell of a lot of power from the front wheels.

What sort of events will you be doing? I take it you are mainly entering tarmac stuff? That thing of yours will be awsome on the fast flowing stuff but I can bet it will be a lot of hard work on the twisty technical stuff.

 

 

Which pump did you use for the steering? We have used a saxo electric pump. Looks similar.

It's always been used purely for tarmac events.

 

Had 160hp before and it was always seriously rapid around the corners but left for dead down the straights - we could keep up with most of the subaru / escorts on the tighter events but always struggled on the open venues. Hopefully we can now be competitive across all venues.

 

That pas pump is an electric one off a saxo

Thaught it was, how have you set that up? Did you use the saxo power steering brain?

The pump just runs through a relay and powers up when the ignition is turned on.

We modified a normal pas rack into a quickrack and then plumbed in the electric pump to replace the original belt driven system.

 

It's an absolute godsend on the longer stages as you can unwind from lock to lock with just one hand on the wheel if you're exiting a fast flowing chicane and got the other hand on the gear stick.

This is a very rare set of speedline corse wheels (set of 6) They came off a 306 kit car they should fit any peugeot 106 205 309 206 citroen xsara saxo etc or even ford with a 4 x 108 pcd. I am not sure if they are a set of aluminium or magnesium but they are very light and came with a ref GAI Si Mg SL1440 i assume the mg signifies that they are magnesium wheel but please check Speedline is the leading performance wheels for the WRC and other motorsport see details below. They are made in Italy with the width 7 JJ x 17 ET15 The other markings are PCD 108/P1 4211D T6 . They will be ideal for motorsport rally or track car and will give any car an aggressive look and better performance . They cost a fortune and are retailed at more than 250 pounds each. The only reason i am selling them is that i am moving house and space is a real problem i am very reluctant to sell them and will not let them go for less than 400 hence i reserve the right to end the auction at any time. They need some cleaning as were kept in the shed They came off a group A maxi kit car i have clean one in the picture

naah just smaller tyres, they'll go straight on with 40 profile tyres, very nice, and certainly in keeping with the Maxi widetrack build :P

seen a Saxo kit car on 40's :P not that it matters really as speedo accuracy doesn't come into it in a race car, affecting the final drive does though.

 

not wheels to use on bumpy stages I guess! do you need big rims for your brakes James?

Brakes were part of the reason, tyres are much wider choice when you get to 17s. Hoping also to improve high speed stability.

 

I will probably run 220/640/17 or 190/650/17 as these are the dunlop sizes. Michelin do a 200/615/17 as a backup if the dunlops won't fit.

 

My 15" tyres are £150 each but the 17s are only £88 each - just the saving on 6 tyres will nearly cover the rim purchase!

 

It will certainly be a squeeze to make them fit - lets hope the arches I have will be wide enough - otherwise it's out with the grinder...again!

 

If all else fails, they can always be sold on...they retail at £400 each so I should be ok on price I paid.

what qualifications do you need to make one for a rally car ect of do you just need to send them for testing ect?

I think the rules have changed lately and you have to send test pieces off to the MSA so they can test the welding before issueing a certificate for the cage.

 

Looks good though, Custom Cages is it?
