BERTMAN 40 1 Cars Posted December 12, 2007 (edited) i went to put 1 of my rear beams onto the xs the other day when i noticed that the two cross members dont sit parrallel, so that when i went to mount it to the car the crossmember brackets dont fit into the holes in the chassis, its as if one of the things ive circled below has rotated round slightly? how do i go about getting them straight? Cheers Liam ill take a picture of the beam tomorrow Edited December 12, 2007 by BERTMAN
welshpug 1,675 Posted December 12, 2007 check that both the crossmember brackets are of the same type, 1.6 ones have the studs central fore and aft, 1.9 brackets are offset by 10 mm IIRC. so if you have a 1.6 and a 1.9 mount, or two left/right hand 1.9 mounts they wont bolt straight up. BERTMAN 40 1 Cars Posted December 12, 2007 the brackets themselves are ok, there both off a 1.9 axle that was on the car previously its as if the circled bit is rotated round on the beam tube? if that makes sense... its hard to describe so ill post a picture up soon, but any other ideas? welshpug 1,675 Posted December 12, 2007 aaah right, ummmmmm! they're just pressed onto the tube so its possible they could have moved with a heavy enough impact, if you lay the beam on the floor upside down you should be able to see if they are out of alignment at all. de Noir 0 Posted December 13, 2007 .... its as if the circled bit is rotated round on the beam tube? if that makes sense... its hard to describe so ill post a picture up soon, but any other ideas? Possible scenario... although I don't see how could this happen in normal use. Is there any play between cast part and beam tube? In short, to save further trouble > You'll need a large press to sort it. First, cast bracket off, realign and then back on. This works for sure.
BERTMAN 40 1 Cars Posted December 13, 2007 well it has been in storage for a while and it was in the boot of my car down sum quite fun country lanes on the way home when i got it ... and as i dont have a big press should i just take it to a local garage? de Noir 0 Posted December 14, 2007 I would.. That's exactly how I got sorted mine... Assembled from 3 different rear beam parts. ...but again, it's mystery to me how your beam got misaligned at all!
