djinuk 2 Posted December 9, 2007 Over the last few weeks ive noticed when starting the car (from anything but red hot) it missfires until it clears (very hard to drive), no there is other times when on a red hot engine (or cold) i come to stop at a junction and the revs die and the car stalls, now earlier i pulled up to speak 2 a friend and teh car quickly spluttered and died (hot engine again) , and about 10 secs later i could smell fuel very very strong, i turned the key to start it again and it took about 5 secs to start and missfired really badly as though it had to clear itself. the car was recently setup at the local garage (carb) and it seems to idle nice at 1k etc, but its jst at random intervals when it decides to die. I change the plugs and leads , dizzy and rotor arm. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
djinuk 2 Posted December 9, 2007 nah got that one of the lad that lives near me.. the garage reckoned the carb was behaving really well though, u think carb could be warn , again.. ive done 2 things 2day, tightened postive battery terminal (this was very loose) and the hose that goes into the carb the clip was very very lose, so ive tightened that right up to see how it goes. Casanova 0 Posted December 10, 2007 (edited) Sounds as if its something to do with fueling, if there's a misfire and you can smell it. Are the lines all clear, no leaks, filter present & not blocked, accelerator and choke cables secure? Could be an intermittent fuel pump problem - have you access to a known good one to try out? If not they're less than £20 so might be worth a go? The other thing I've heard is that when hot, the coil can play up, then returning to working when it cools down. djinuk 2 Posted December 10, 2007 for what its worth ill whip of the two fuel lines near the carb and blow them through and ill replace the fuel filter to see if that helps, if not, then ill go scrapyard in search of a fuel pump (are the 1.0L ones etc the same), dont think its the coil because it has the same problem even when cold thankies Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
