Front To Rear Brake Pipes

Recommended Posts

Guest ste_xs

Tomorrow I am changing my xs beam to a 1.6 GTI beam with 1.6 gti drums.

I remember somebody mentioning that the gti's only run one brake pipe to the rear, but i though it was the 1.9 that had only 1.9 not both.is this right or can i still run 2 lines through the car to the rear beam. If i do need to go down to one line do i need to get a new Master cylinder or can i just seal one of the ports up?

I already bought some goodridge hoses for my xs, will these fit the 1.6 beam? Or will i need to exchange them?

Im also after some bulkhead fittings to run my brake pipes through the car. i think i need m10x1. does anybody know where to get them?

Thanks in advance,

Ste

The 1.6 GTi has a single line to the rear brakes, the 1.9 has two like the XS.

Also the 1.6 & 1.9's have seperate compensators in the lines (tweo for the 1.9) where the XS has them built into the rear wheel cylinders.

AFAIK, You can use the XS braided flexi-hoses & connect directly to the 1.6 beam rigid pipes from the pipes already on your car but imo you will need to fit some type of compensator to prevent you locking your rear brakes to easily.

If you are fitting all new lines running through the car then you can use any thread you want for the bulkhead fittings, you only need M10 for the master cylinder end & any connections to the flexis as they leave the car.

Graham.
