Missfire From 3-4.5k When Warm

Recommended Posts

kenan

My MI16 is missfiring betwen 3-4.5k but only after the temp has come up a bit. I'v changed the following:

Leads, coil, temp sensor

I expect its the ignition amp right? will also try new plugs but think these are fine.

Ive got the exact same problem bud, so far ive done the temp sensor, new amp from GSF (not a genuine one) dizzy cap, rotor arm and plugs, plus a couple of coils.

Ive hopefully mananged to acquire a bosch ignition amp so if that cures it ill let you know bud.

Dont think so, i think its pretty much there from the word go, i bodged on a 'standard' coil, i.e an old round type and the misfire disappeared, which led me to believe the coil was faulty, but swapping it for another Mi coil brought the misfire back, the older coil is of a lesser resitance than the Mi one, so in my case things are still pointing towards the ignition amp.

Thats the next steop for mine as far as I can tell. Im lucky I don't need the car to get to work etc as this would be a real problem.

I have the same problem between 2.5-3.5k but only when I push it, under normal driving it's fine so I will also check this for info!

Hello !

Id say classic ignition problem :) so either bad ignition amplifier or bad coil :) ... Try first with some spare/new ignition amp. and if that doesn't helps try with another coil ... also check the usual ignition components : leads , plugs , dizzy cap , rotor arm , wiring from the coil to the ignition amp. and dizzy ...

Cheers ! B)

already checked the rota arm and dizzy cap which were changed in the summer.

Try the ignition amp. then :) bad ignition amp. can cause all sorts of ignition problems - cold start , no spark , weak spark , misfiring , cutting out .. and other various electrical gremlins :)

Just don't forget to re-apply the thermal transfer paste at the back of the ignition amp. surface :) cos if you don't do this the amp. will overheat and can burn out and you'll have same misfiring problem again ...

Cheers ! :)

I had a similar problem with my 309 a while ago. It took me aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages to suss it out. I replaced every electrical item apart from the loom!

Turned out to be a faulty immobiliser relay....

Might not be the same problem as yours though. Mine was burning out coils randomly and the rev counter was all over the scale when it started misfiring.

Ah. What fun that was... :(

Update

Changed the ignition module and while I was there pulled off the injector plugs. One of which had only one termal connected, the other was pushed back in the housing. Got al excited and took her for a spin to now have a different problem. She is now missing and the rev counter is moving around quite quickly in relation to the engine noise so sounds like a wiring fault grrrrrrrrrrr and drives the worse she ever has lol

Have you checked out the black hall-sensor wire from the dizzy? This is the start of the rev counter signal and can also cause rev-counter and miss-fire problems if fudged. Take it off, clean the connectors etc and check the continuity of the wiring. Could also be the dizzy itself but less likely.

Failing that, try the dreaded brown multiplug (search). I hate french wiring, although the Renault wiring looms of old make the Pug's look good in comparisan....

Good luck

Put the original Bosch ignition amp back on and revs fine until she get hot and then start to misfire again....

Slightly off topic but did you ever discover why your engine was down on power? Didn't it only make 140 odd bhp at alan jeffries?

Yeah on the way to pugfest, bit in the Dizzy cap that connects to the rotor arm was missing and the rotor arm was also on the way out. Stu broke down, we got him going and then 30 seconds later mine broke down. Nothing like a group of Peugeots together on a drive

I have an "Magneti Marelli" MTR 01 ignition module and I've notice that the engine pulls a little bit stronger from low revs with this "Marelli" module then with the OE "Bosch" MTR 01 ... also i can add a little bit more spark advance with this "Marelli" module ...
