philfingers 5 Posted November 27, 2007 Sheared off completely underneath. The rubber itself is fine and it's not that old. It's an uprated item too, not std genuine or cheap aftermarket. anyone seen anythign like this before? Phil
jas-E 1 Posted November 27, 2007 hey mate, I had this problem a couple of months back. I posted it up and got a few replies on how to remove the bottom part. I guess many have gone through this before. Jas
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted November 27, 2007 I see that more often on 306's and 406's, only a couple of 205's for some reason.
jord294 94 Posted November 27, 2007 i had similar problem. it was actually the rubber that had seperated, which caused a knocking sound when turning left. like a cv had gone.
Richie-Van-GTi 73 2 Cars Posted November 27, 2007 did you have the buffers on the top mount and also was the gearbox and lower mount uprated? Ive seen it on a couple and its usually been put down to either a worn gearbox mount allowing the engine to pull sideways on the top mount or the combination of no buffers and soft lower mount allowing a lot of swing on the top mount. philfingers 5 Posted November 28, 2007 All the upper buffers were in place and the lower mounts and gear box mounts are perfect. All uprated parts. It's like it's cracked around the heat affect zone of the weld which holds the stud on the bottom. All came out ok. I replaced it with a PTS item i had lying around
205mattgti 0 Posted November 29, 2007 i had a problem a while ago, i kept ripping out gearbox mounts, not seen the top ones go like that before
JamesLumley 4 Posted November 30, 2007 This has happened a couple of times in the rally car. We use 3 top mount buffers to reduce the movement. Has happened with both std and uprated mounts - I've always attributed it to the engine torque and high loads the slick tyres put on everything but perhaps we're wrong and there is something else causing it. Was it a genuine PTS mount it's happened to or an uprated 'non gen' mount?
