Craigb 2 Posted November 26, 2007 Where's the best source for mains and big end bearings ? Also does anyone have any recomendation for an oil pressure sender and light instead of using the dodgy oe gauge
SPGTi 2 Posted November 27, 2007 I would say Peugeot is as good as anywhere for the bearings. For the gauge, I have been looking at the SPA dual oil pressure / oil temp. gauge (electrical with a digital display). Brumster has one and found that it is better to remote mount the sender so that it can be fixed firmly as if they are straight in the block then the sender tends to break. pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted November 27, 2007 I'd say any engine remanufacturer or motor factors will supply you with the same thing but for a bit less than Peugeot or you could get them from the forum sponser Q-E-P. All thats different imo will be the packaging. Graham.
pee vee 1 Posted November 27, 2007 (edited) SPA gauges are very good.. but expensive! I prefer 'analogue' type gauges to digital ones, as when you are on track or whatever you can just glance to check the needles are pointing roughly in the right direction.... but with a display you actually need to read it.. i use racetec gauges. they are mechanical (capillery line for oil pressure) so no fear of dodgy Peugeot earths giving them false readings.. and they are pretty accurate...well i know the temp ones are cos i tested mine lol.. the ones i would get if i was gonna spend big money on them though, are DEFI gauges, you need a control box to run them. but just to be flash, they record and replay the last 30 seconds of their movement, if you want them to. rnotman67 0 Posted November 28, 2007 Border Engines in Berwick-Upon-Tweed supplied me with Heavy Duty shells for my mi16 which I think were cheaper than pug ones.
Rob_the_Sparky 10 Posted November 28, 2007 When I last asked standard Pug big ends were around £30 for a set, but they made no difference at all to my oil pressure when changed. In fact a complete engine rebuild made little difference so I'm assuming that my gauge sensor is under reading. Never got round to replacing it though, one of the things on my list of to do at somepoint...

Never got round to replacing it though, one of the things on my list of to do at somepoint... I'd get it checked mate. I had a rebuild and new shells and stuff and also assumed the gauge was underreading. Until mine eventually started putting the STOP light on and by then it was too late. Its now running a bit rough, despite a rebuild in january in 2007. I took mine to a garage and they put some super-wonderful oil pressure rig on it and then they had a heart attack when they realised it was only running between 0-10psi. Anthony 1,003 Posted November 30, 2007 Is that not a bit low?? Exactly, that's the point he's getting at
CaptainK 11 Posted November 30, 2007 Exactly, that's the point he's getting at Yup, its not very good at all. Hence why my engine is pretty much knackered. I still drive it as it still goes ok - I know its probably damaging the engine further, but I'm going to be replacing the engine soon so I don't care.
