K22PUG 0 Posted November 26, 2007 Hi Could anyone tell me what the effect would be if I disabled the coolant pipes (heating) to and from the throttle body of my 1.9 XU9JA Gti. I could then take the pipe direct from the outlet on the head to the expansion tank. These pipes make it awkward to remove the throttle body. Thanks Alan
Anthony 1,003 Posted November 26, 2007 I always bypass the throttle body whenever I plumb the cooling system in on 205 8v's - it's not needed in the UK climate in my experience, and certainly I've never experienced any issues whatsoever with throttle body icing even in the depths of winter up in the Scottish highlands. pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted November 26, 2007 As above, totally un-neccessary in the UK. Makes removing the TB to swap the starter a doddle as well. Graham.

Rob_the_Sparky 10 Posted November 28, 2007 Look on the bottom of the throttle body - there are only two water pipes and a vacuum pipe so hard to get it wrong...
mrblonde 0 Posted November 30, 2007 so what do you use to block it off then?.at the body and expansion tank?.
Anthony 1,003 Posted November 30, 2007 Connect the expansion tank directly to the thermostat housing, rather than having the throttle body in between, if that makes sense. You don't need to block anything off - you can leave the unused throttle body connections open without issue.

Or hack them off cause they weigh something
KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted December 3, 2007 Yeah and it looks messy. Then fill them and paint for that factory look.
