TaffyTim 6 Posted November 19, 2007 Is fiting a new speedo cable as easy as it sounds in the Haynes as mine stopped working on friday? Are there any tips i should note? Where is the best place to buy a new cable from, Im not too bothered if it wobbles just as long as it works
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted November 19, 2007 It's worth checking the drive wheel first as these can break (plastic) or what I had happen the other the the drive wheel come out of the speedo housing on the gearbox for no reason as the bolt had never been undone in it's life. But if it is the cable the routing is the hardest up in the dash so worth using some string et con the old one before you pull it out

TaffyTim 6 Posted December 5, 2007 Heres a few pics of the job if anyone needs them for future reference. It is quite an easy job just a bit fiddily with the dash and then refitting the grommet: Here is where the cable goes into the gearbox: Slide this bung out from the side of it: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taf...replacement.jpg and the cable just pulls out: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taf...eplacement2.jpg undo the grommit that feeds into the drivers footwell by the clutch peddle (the black ball you see is attatched to the cable): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taf...eplacement3.jpg take the top half of the dash apart removing the large section that surronds the clocks (See haynes for screw point): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taf...eplacement4.jpg unscrew the clocks and unplug the electrics, noting which went where : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/taf...eplacement5.jpg *Then unclip the speedos plastic hooks from the back of the clocks *Tie string around the cable tightly and feed out to the engine bay *Feed new cable back thoruogh, I had to undo the panel by the drivers knees to help get the cable back through the wires *Then clip on the speedo and stuggle to put everything back in its right place
