Synchromesh, I'm not sure if its worth fixing or just sourcing another box.

GTI-6 box is 6 speed which reduces steering lock, I think most stick with 205 boxes.

Could well be syncromesh, but before jumping to conclusions I would try a couple of easy items like checking the gearlinkage for slop, changing the gearbox oil (which can have a profound effect) and also the tension on the clutch cable. You may well find that these cure the problems and regardless if your 205 is a daily driver changing these 3 items will drastically improve your 205 experience.

Oh and by the way welcome to the 205 fold. You wont be disappointed

It won;t be the Syncro but a little spring clip that breaks off inside, Can be repaired on the car but handy to have a known good box to hand just in case it is something else, Then it may need a clutch etc etc

My gearbox is also a little crunchy into third, I believe on mine it is because the plastic bushes on the selector arm are knacked and one keeps falling out of place. I should have replced them last time the box was off but I cba at the time.
