there is a Polish (IIRC) company that used the XUD9 in a rwd configuration, with their own gearbox, though I cant remember what they are called now.you could always use a tried and trusted MT75 with an adapter plate and custom clutch arrangement.

edit!; its FSO!

I suppose an adapter is the answer, i relatively cheap and opens up for a wider range of boxes

Thanks

FSO Polonez and pick up have used RWD configured XU diesels, as has the LDV Van range.

LoL, he/she must be insane.

An Ex of mine's parents had an FSO Polonez new in 1988, the sump plug fell out and her Dad ran it dry until it stopoped then got recovered (Fiat engined model). They topped it up and sent him on his way! It rattled and groaned on until I came on the scene in 1991 and I used to run about in it for a while after passing my test before I had my own car and it was truly awful. However it was spectacularly good on snow, perhaps a nod to its native climate! It did have 5 speed box (quite posh at the time), discs all round, double wishbone front and four linked rear axle, for all the good it did it!

yeah, he is a little, he drifts his N reg round the roundabouts of Cwmbran in the wet

his dad has one and he's got a 1.5 petrol for bits.

I have had a look underneath and when he mentioned the engine was on its last legs I said put an Mi16 in it, to which he said "would it fit?" "hell yeah, its an XU!", he wandered off with a thought-full look on him....

I think the LDV uses the peugeot XUD engine and a transit gearbox so that could be ideal for a conversion with any ford box.

I have a spare custon cages 309 shell i'm thinking of building RWD with an MI16, quaiffe sequential ford box and impreza rear end

The trouble is the rear hubs would be 5x100 pcd so would have to run different wheels on the rear or convert either end to be the same.

was the 505 rwd?

It was, but none of them had XU engines, so an adaptor would still be needed.

Wasn't there a magazine featured car that used an Mi16 engine with an Audi 80 'box for RWD? Can't remember what car it was, some mid engined kit car.

Interesting, if it is a Ford box and could be used on a Type-9 etc (uprated of course), I'm halfway there in my head! I've been planning my dream RWD 309 since the early 1990s!

I'm sure you could get wheels to fit. I've got an S2000 diff and shafts kicking about that I would use (ATB standard), with fabricated wishbones and whatever uprights.

It's possible, as is anything with an adaptor plate. Shouldn't be too hard with a set of dimensions/drawings given to a decent Engineer.

This has run an Mi16 for a good few years, and his Lada Riva Rally car was running it before the Escort was built!;

yes indeed and it's called Pell Genesis:

however, the engine has to be mid-mounted in that case (and it is) while Toffe needs it

front mounted, with a propshaft and rear diff i guess :D.
