Pob 1 Posted November 17, 2007 Hi, I noticed the boot on the track rod end was split so I decided to replace it. I had a real hard time removing the old track rod end... Took alot of heating and working it back and forwards, It gets really stiff to turn. I finally got it off, thinking the new end would be easy to tighten back in... I was very wrong, Its going to take the same method to remove as to refit, Any ideas whats going on? The thread on the end was fine. I'm going to get a tap tomorrow, am I right in thinking its 12x1.5? The thread on the end I removed was in perfect condition, no sign of cross threading. I'm going to run a tap through it, hopefully its just rubbish in the thread. Can you replace the rods? If so is it hard to do? One last question, Is the rod treaded both ends so If I turn the rod it will adjust it within the boot if you know what I mean? Its probably best to replace the track rod though, to do this remove the gaitor and unscrew it from the rack with a stilsons wrench. I decided to replace the rod, for the price of a tap and the chance it not working Its not worth the hassle. I was expecting it to be quite expensive, £10 + vat Thanks everyone, a great help.
