AdamP 0 Posted November 15, 2007 You may have noticed that the 205 died on it's second run at the RR show... this was because of a dead fan draining the battery and causing the car to get very hot while waiting for runs. A very generous fellow 205 owner let us have a good fan with a twin fan surround for very very little money (thanks againn if you read this!), which needs a GTi size radiator. Now with a 205XS to break for parts on the way and a GTi radiator my plan is coming together..... The main problem is that a radiator and fan designed for a 60hp 1.1 granny spec 205 aint gonna be sufficient on a tuned 120bhp, high revving XS engine that will be thrashed for the majority of it's life! My plan is to fit the gti radiator with the twin fan surround fitted with 2 fans. One of them connected up as usual and the other to a manual switch. This means extra cooling due to the big radiator, more airflow due to a more open surround (the original blocks off half the radiator!) and 2 fans mean keeping it cool should be easy. Are there any difficulties with fitting a gti radiator to an XS/RG etc?
welshpug 1,657 Posted November 15, 2007 Doesnt the TU rad incorporate the expansion tank? therefore you'll need to fit some sort of header tank (doesn't have to be for a pug, IIRC Hilgie has a Volvo unit on this V6) I wouldnt bother with 2 fans, overkill IMO! and you could still fit an oil cooler in the gap like a 1.9 does
AdamP 0 Posted November 15, 2007 Mine defo has a seperate expansion tank. I'll give it a go, see what it's like if it isn't that difficult to do. Adam
Jrod 7 Posted November 15, 2007 We are just doing this. You need to modify the top hose, we got hold of a gti one and and are going to mix and match. Will let you know how it goes.

christopher 5 1 Cars Posted November 15, 2007 You could just use a euro rallye radiator. This is the same size as a Gti one
Jrod 7 Posted November 15, 2007 Hard to get hold of though? wonder if you could use a euro rallye top hose.

I have a modified 8valve 205 GTi fitted with twin Weber's which i sprint and hillclimb as well as drive on the road. The rad i fitted is the diesel 205 ally rad with the std diesel fan ( smaller and lighter ) and have no problems with overheating at all.
205Rallee 59 Posted November 16, 2007 You could just use a euro rallye radiator. This is the same size as a Gti one I've just replaced my euro rallye's radiator and GSF do one for the 205 1.6 Auto which is exactly the same as the standard euro rallye one. Mine is used for sprints and hillclimbs and can be left idling all day and with one fan in a two fan cowling it never overheats.
