FinalD 0 Posted November 12, 2007 I have this thing on my desk, that apparently controls the internal fan...but I don't know what it actually does, as it's broken so I've been told. Here are some pics of it... http://finaldecap.com/images/205/12112007588.jpg http://finaldecap.com/images/205/12112007589.jpg http://finaldecap.com/images/205/12112007590.jpg Any help? I need to get a new one if it is a fan controlling thing, as the fan certainly doesn't work, which is rather irritating to say the least. Cheers Rob

You could try cleaning up the connections. In the third picture there is a soldered point with a piece of metal pressed against it. Lift that up slightly and give it a clean. This worked on my one a couple of weeks ago. I then went a step further and put some copper paste between them and got another improvement. Might save you a few quid. I'll clean the connections up a bit more, see if I can squeeze more out of the fan, but it works now, cheers. Also, now that it works, how do I go about getting it in the hole for it? it seems too big for it...at least, I guess it goes where I was trying to put it. In the passenger footwell, below the fan/heating assembly.
FinalD 0 Posted November 12, 2007 And now it doesn't... http://finaldecap.com/images/205/12112007592.jpg Just went and snapped the disc AND the arm. I'm really in need of a fan for next weekend, so it looks like I'll just have to Ebay a new one...£20 Unless the local motorfactors that yell.com pulled up just happens to have on in stock tomorrow. Rob IF you had a tub of artic silver or copper paste or even some tinfoil around you might still get a connection going. How did you manage to break it like that? It should be installed vertically with the alloy bit first in between the heater motor and corner of the footwell. Cheapest I can see for a new one listed is £36. You could also try a scrappy for a 309 or 205 might be the cheapest opt of all
FinalD 0 Posted November 12, 2007 Well I have a HUGE real of solder, and an iron, but it didn't help. I gave up and spend £22 on one from Ebay, that's a new unit, so I should have no problems with it. I'm not 100% sure on how I broke it all, too much force I think, rather irritating, but it's too late now to worry about it really, it's happened. The whole of my unit doesn't look the nicest of things, so I think it probably is due a new one. The fan didn't seem to spin up all that fast when I had cleaned it, so hopefully the new unit will allow for it to run properly...also hopefully it'll arrive before Sat as that's when I have an early start. Guest smokinslim Posted November 12, 2007 Is the heater fan not working an mot fail? Mine's recently packed up n im preping for the test shortly...
jackherer 543 Posted November 13, 2007 Its not part of the test.
Jrod 7 Posted November 13, 2007 I thought you had to be able to clear the window? Or will just being able to set it to hot do that enough for a pass.
jackherer 543 Posted November 13, 2007 I think thats from the SVA test for kit cars and customs etc, the interior fan is definitely not part of the MOT.

FinalD 0 Posted November 13, 2007 Yeah, the XR passed it's MOT without the resister unit in place, so it doesn't matter. I can clear the screen, just with about 30mins of the heater on full, just no fan...although yesterday morning there was ice, so the car wasn't too impressed, engine stayed cold for ages, so the heater was useless for ages. If it's packed up, just make sure it isn't the resistor that's actually packed up, check to see if it's covered in crud like mine was. I have to say though, when I got the fan working it doesn't squeal, unlike most of the 205 fans I've heard. Rob
FinalD 0 Posted November 15, 2007 Got the new unit today, installed it, and now I have a screaming fan What this does mean though, is that it works fully, so £22.50 well spent. Now I can enjoy breezy motoring without having to have the window open, so it can infact be warm breezy motoring. Rob
philfingers 5 Posted December 1, 2007 OK. Where do this unit go exactly. My 205 rally car (which I only boughtn recently) had the fan wired to a switch. One wire went to ground and the other to a plug (hanging below the dash, back of where the radio would be) which looks like it should plug into this unit. So where is this unit mounted. Onto the side ot the heater box? If so is it the same as a 309 one, as I have one of those, in fact all the parts from a complete car which I broke so should have a spare. There aren't any other plugs I can think of in that area which could even possibly fit it. Graham.
philfingers 5 Posted December 3, 2007 Ok thanks, will have to have a look and see when I get home. Maybe itwas the same scenario as others, it wasn't working so it was bypassed. Phil
