pee vee 1 Posted November 11, 2007 Ive searched and not found anything similar, basically My mi16 (3 row managment) when at idle sounds like a lumpy american V8 (if you know what i mean) it 'throbs'. the emissions are thru the roof. lambda 1.7 at idle with co around the 7% mark Hydrocarbon PPM at about 2500 (needs to be less than 1200 to pass mot ) as soon as you rev the car, it seems fine, still goes ok and everything. its just when it comes to idle it seems to be running very rich. its not missing or overfuelling when on the road (AFR is 13.6:1 under load in 4th gear) ive tried the screw on the AFM and that did almost nothing. any ideas what it could be?? spark plugs are brand new, it just about scraped thru its mot last weekend but seems to of got worse now ive come to sort it :s engine is Standard, pully number 4 on inlet, and number 2 on exhaust. im wondering if its possible teh cams got mixed up somehow? would it be possible to get the cams round the wrong way even though the pullys are right? any help on this would be good. as i want to get it sorted. thanks! jackherer 543 Posted November 11, 2007 Worn throttle body perhaps, try fiddling with the linkages when its lumpy to see if theres a position where its better.
pee vee 1 Posted November 11, 2007 it seems to be exactly the same everytime to be honest. i did try messing about with the throttle body, and it just seemed to increase the idle speed.. but that dont really explain all the unburnt fuel floating around :s
pee vee 1 Posted November 17, 2007 (edited) anyone got any ideas? ive put new dizzy cap and rotor arm on it. new spark plugs. different air flow meter, checked the connections to the sensors. and STILL its got what almost appears to be a misfire up to just about 2k rpm.. above 2k it runs fine... car pulls well still, especially up top of rev range. if you stand behind it, it appears to 'pulse' from the exhast at idle, as said, like a big V8 would sound at idle. its doing my head now!!! tested the water temp sensor, .45k ohms when the car had been run for a while. does that sound right? the engine is timed up ok.. all the keyways line up. anyone got any ideas? cheers Edited November 17, 2007 by pee vee
