madspikes 41 1 Cars Posted October 29, 2007 Does the 8v oil pump drive need a woodruff key to lock it to the crank, or is driven using the clamping force from the crank pulley bolt? Mad.
M@tt 77 Posted October 29, 2007 you might be right mad as looking at this pic the pump sprocket (2) has a recess for a key in it. however the pics for the mi16 one looks the same but that defniately doesn't in the flesh. it would make sense though as purely relying on torque seems a bit daft to me. DamirGTI 342 Posted October 29, 2007 Hi ! Yes , there must be one woodruff key locking oil pump cog wheel (on the shaft first goes the oil pump cog wheel No2 from diagram , then woodruff key and ring spacer No11 over the woodruff key pressed to the cog wheel surface ..) and one woodruff key locking crank pulley , so 2 woodruff keys ... (they are both same size and shape ) Regards ! Damir
Anthony 1,003 Posted October 29, 2007 The oil pump drive on an 8v or Mi16 is friction only from tightness of the crank pulley bolt. Bizarre design, but it's true...
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted October 29, 2007 The oil pump drive on an 8v or Mi16 is friction only from tightness of the crank pulley bolt. Bizarre design, but it's true... This varies between engines imo, I've yet to strip an 8v that doesn't have a woodruff key for the oil pump drive (six & counting, 87-92 engines) but there have been a couple of cases on here before where an incorrectly tightened crankshaft pulley bolt has ended in a dead engine due to no oil pressure. Have a look at what Dave Baker from Puma racing has to say. Graham.
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted October 29, 2007 I've found that every 1.6 engine with the smaller drive wheel has the key as the design was kept from 1984 onwards, The 1.9 and Mi16 thou use a friction fit which I don;t like and I upgrade to the later GTi6 wheel which is keyed on (A design change back then)
madspikes 41 1 Cars Posted October 29, 2007 Interesting, sounds typically french! Anyway, thanks for all your replys, the doing up the pulley bolt F.T did the trick.. It wasnt exactly tight! But jobs a good'en I now have good oil pressure so the supercharging can continue! Mad.
