Bleedin' Hoses!

Recommended Posts

My new BBM silicon "tubes" arived this morning (splendid service from Stewart) so have tackled replacing my coolant hoses.

Well, I'm having a great time - I have had to hacksaw the first 3 off!! I just seem to be making such slow going of it.

And my front drivers wheel arch liner is siezed on, as some muppet has threaded the screw heads holding it on. So I will have to cut that out too.

Will I do any harm driving without an arch liner in for a while? (Not that its going anywhere for a bit....).

Any is there any reason why some of the jubilee clips have bolts through and others are of a different type without? I have just bought all bolt-tight ones as replacements.

Mug of tea, back to it, wish me luck :)

Don't see any reason why the fastener on the clips will make a difference on the coolant system. I've had a couple of cars that have had the arch liner missing with no probs. I suppose if you can replace it again then do it.

I bloody hate pissing about with manky old hoses, especially when the buggers are seized on and you have no room to twist and manipulate them off without skinning your knuckles!

Those clips, usually the smaller ones, that have a sort of crushed on fitting as opposed to a bolt, are a total pain in the arse too. There's probably a tool for releasing them easily but I usually get a small screw driver under the lip and lever it open to release it, which usually ends in more skinned knuckles and swearing, and th clip is useless after. If I ever replace my hoses I certainly won't putting any of those awful clips back on!

After a day of it, I am glad I went for silicon hoses and have proper jubilee clips on now. I certainly don't want to do it again!

Just 4 out of 10 to do tomorrow :)
