Recommended Posts

Guest domblythe

Hello,

Am a neebie to the site don't have the "access" yet to search for the stupid little questions so i was wondering weather you 205 genius' wouls be able to help me out. I have a 1.6 gti on an H plate and when am driving for a while the radiator light will come up on the dash. I have checked the fluid level and its fine, any ideas as to what is causing it and where it gets the signal from. When i accelerate it goes off and when i let off it comes back on, thats what mad me think its the level.

Get your thinking caps on, probably an easy one for you!!!

Dom

Have you tried topping up the level a little and seeing if that cures it?

Phase 2 cars such as yours can suffer from interference from the HT leads making the low coolant light come on, so it might be worth moving the wiring as far away from the HT leads as you can, and trying another set of HT leads.

Mine has recently decided to come on permanently, but i don't know why. Mine is also a H plate, phase 1.5, and i've checked and topped up the coolant level but its still on! Any ideas as to what may be causing it to stay on?? Thanks in advance!

Remove the coolant sensor.

Shake it around.

Watch the gunk come out of it.

Lower it halfway into a bucket of clean water.

Shake it around again.

Repeat operation until no more brown gunk comes out.

When you can hear the level sensor moving refit to car.

Top coolant back up.

Check to see whether light has gone off.
