Clicking Rev Counter And Cutting Out

I couldn't search for thisd as the search function has been disabled but i am borrowing my mum's MI16 temporarily to use for uni.

 

Not all the time but sometimes when I turn the key to the second notch on the ignition barrell it will start clicking like mad and sometimes the rev counter needle jumps all over the place, when i start the engine its fine and runs fine

 

And also sometimes i think may be related to this the engine has cut out on me three times now. Two times just while going very slowly on roudabouts (nice!) and one time when i was just about to pull outta the driveway.

 

 

Can anybody help please?

for anybody finding this on the search we found the problem was due to a faulty fuel pump relay i believe
