Oil Flow Though Oil Filter.....

Recommended Posts

Ok, maybe a daft question but....

Which direction does the oil flow through a filter? Is the centre of the filter an input or an output?

Thanks

Mad. :)

It comes in thru the outside of the filter and comes out the inside of the filter. notice there is like a rubber flab over the holes on the outside of the filter, they act like a one way valve allows oil in and none out.

My mate just destroyed a very expensive brand new engine cause he relocated his oil filter off the block to the body and connected the lines wrong, ran the car for like 2 days and it knocked.

Replaced with engine and I told him he should check the lines before he started. They were wrong and he would have destroyed another engine in a matter of days. Thing is he was reading the oil pressure before the filter too, so it looked like he had lots of good pressure. Unfortunately it wasnt getting pass the filter or at least very little.

Thanks for the quick reply, a diagram I found showed it the other way around and it just didnt make sense to me!

So looking at the engine side, oil enters the engine through the centre hole.

Cool, I can crack on with the oil lines now.
