Mi16 Rebuild

Recommended Posts

After my cat b write off I bought another 205 off flea bay, a 1.6 for 300 squid with a dodgy HG and clutch, changed over the rear axle and braking system from my old 1.9 which is known good and put the 1.6 system onto the 1.9, (I need my spares to be mobile). Plan to do the same with the front suspension including subframe and power steering and am currently working on mi16 engine rebuild with a view of reconditioning the gearbox when the engine is complete . The engine has done 192K here are some pics of the Mains, Big end bearings and the crank, Big ends journals on the crank were fine, just some scoring on No1 and 3 mains. What I did find slightly disconcerting was when taking the big end caps off, the big end bearing shells would stay in situ and not on the cap which is something I’ve never experienced on diesel engines, I can now see how easy it is for these engine to spin a shell. I’m taking the crank and liners to get them checked out by an engine specialist and all being well reground and he-honed. Will get some more pics up.
