Gti-6 On Throttle Bodies Problem?

Recommended Posts

GTI6BOY

I have been out today with the gti-6 boys so the car has been on a good long run, i stopped at the petrol station and when i went to start the car again it was turning over but then the battery started to die and the starter motor cut in then out till the battery went flat? i have a red top battery, new starter motor and there is 14.4v when the car is running.

This has happened a couple of times now but i cant find the problem?

is your ECU running a permenant live instead of a switched live? mine was doing this but it really took a couple days before the battery would be flat.

It colud be the wire that goes from the ignition barrel to the starter solenoid. It runs through the fuse board then out to the starter. I had this problem and have run a wire dirrectly from the barrel to the solenoid.

tidypug - some one else said this. do i just run another cable from an ignition live to the spade connector on the starter motor? what do i do with the old cable?

Bonzai - no its not that as its quite a new problem

You can just leave your old cable as is, it's not harming anything. If i remember right i think its wire number 14, but don't quote me on that, that comes from the ignition barrel. I just soldered a wire onto it and the barrel end then soldered it onto the original wire at the starter motor end.

right, its cable no 46.

its live when you have the key turned all the way.

i connected a cable straight from there to the starter and it turns over but will not start?

plug the original cable back in and it starts?

if the starter turns then its not at fault, your problem lies elsewhere i think. have you checked easy stuff like gearbox earth?

when i fitted the gti-6 engine, i fitted a 300amp earth to the gearbox,

read that as i forgot the first time i started it, and ALL the lights on the dash dimmed when i started...pmsl

then realised my mistake, fitted cable, engine fired up.

it makes a MASSIVE difference, just for peace of mind, fit a new BIG cable

i think is a cable problem now

i have two thick new earth cables from the battery, 1 goes to the car, the other goes to the gearbox

I had a drop test done on my battery and its putting out 90% starting power which is very good.

The other thing which is strange, if i jump start my car of somebody elses car it fires up on the button?

then it must be the positive, as it cant draw enough power from ya battery
