Silky 33 1 Cars Posted October 17, 2007 Looking to change the driveshafts on my 1.6 GTI. Apart from the shafts themselves, which other parts will I need to replace while doing it, seals/bearings etc ? Could someone list what I'd need, part no's would be handy if anyone has them Sorry for not doing a search but the function is not available at the moment Thanks Michael
welshpug 1,657 Posted October 17, 2007 Peugeot say you should replace the balljoint bolts, its also a good idea to replace the driveshaft seals in the diff housing. apart from those items thats it (assuming the new shafts come with new Hub nuts) part numbers to follow... Silky 33 1 Cars Posted October 17, 2007 Do new shafts come with new hub nuts ?!
welshpug 1,657 Posted October 17, 2007 (edited) they usually do, but it depends if they're staked or R clipped ones, 205's are usually staked IIRC, so a new nut should be used (and supplied IMO) left seal is 3121 44, and right seal is 3121 46. Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted October 19, 2007 remember to slacken the driveshaft nut before you dismantle anything. If you have the standard 1.6 wheels you will need to borrow a wheel with a centre cap so you can have the wheels on the ground while you get the nut undone .(1.6 alloys have no centre cap) i use a deep socket (35mm for the 1.9 and iirc its 32mm for the 1.6) and my 1/2 extendable breaker bar is usually just enough to slacken them(i've had to use scaffold bar before )
Stu 18 Posted October 19, 2007 As above the driveshaft nuts can be really tight, ive had to use a 3/4 socket in the past and a big jack handle.. Other than that i think you've got everything, i bought a set of driveshaft oil seals from pug recently, and they arent cheap! Well worth doing though.
