kyepan 291 Posted October 17, 2007 I've noticed a faint smell of petrol when I 1st get in the 205. Any ideas why this is? Ta Chris probably petrol evaporating from somewhere. lift the rear seats, lift the fuel pump covers in the floor under the carpet and check for leaks on the unions (be careful the plastic outlets from the pump are prone to snapping), check the fuel hoses under the car for corrosion, check the unions at the fuel filter and fuel rail. Mine smells of petrol when it stalls, and when it first starts. cheers J
paulh 0 Posted October 17, 2007 I've noticed a faint smell of petrol when I 1st get in the 205. Petrol cap leaking fumes like mine does possibly!!! Wish I could cure mine - even tried another seal without success

wardy18 33 1 Cars Posted October 18, 2007 ive been told that when the tank is very low you often get very strong petrol smells within the car which is coming from the pressure release pipe or somethin which is releasin the pressure inside the tank cause its next to empty and so building up more pressure which needs to be released dont know if ive been told right but it set my mind at rest however not all 205's that ive driven have done it, only one i had did but i have sold it now and never looked anymore into it
Rupertfinch 6 Posted October 19, 2007 Dunno, but it might be worth checking your fuel filter (on the left hand side of the engine as you look into it). I replaced mine a few months back and am convinced that i may have over-tightened the banjo bolts. Ever since I have noticed the faint whiff of petroleum distillate! Still it makes ever journey smell that little sweeter! Thank God I don't drive a diesel!
