Couple Of Q's On Driveshaft Seals And Speedo Drive

Recommended Posts

Doof

I've finally managed to get my gearbox on and was forced to take the speedo drive housing off (which for others doing this makes it infinitely easier). What im wondering is how to seal it. Its just been reconned and they used some silicone of some sort, even though there appears to be a rubber seal in there...is any sealant needed and if so what sort?

Also, the driveshaft oil seals...how touchy are they with regards to sealing? They were new about 6 months ago and i cant get any more today, they've been knocked a bit but they're far from perished or anything. I'm just worried that they have to be totally perfect to seal.

Unsure about the gearbox sealant, every gearbox i've fitted i never put any sealent on it. You should be able to get away with the driveshaft seals if they are in good condition, its a pita if they do leak once the car is back on its wheels though!

You shouldn't need any sealant but its up to you, the seal thats fitted usually does the job.
