andymi16 0 Posted October 12, 2007 Im sure I'm not the only one with carpet that has seen better days! I've heard vaguely of people spray painting carpet. Has anyone tried this with success? I'd imagine you'd want a matt paint - and you would't want to go too mad?! Thanks
Ahl 4 Posted October 12, 2007 I've never heard of spray painting carpet, but I have topics on the forum before where people have sucessfully dyed their carpet. Apparenty the carpets are quite durable and will stand up to jet washing too, which is said to be quite effective.
Jrod 7 Posted October 12, 2007 On wheeler dealers he sprayed a parecl shelf which came out quite well, not sure if you could use the same stuff?
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted October 12, 2007 We have succesfully dyed a red carpet to black and it came out very durable. First washed it using a jetwasher and then used and old bathtub to dye the carped.
Ethos 0 Posted October 12, 2007 Have you tried a good quality carpet cleaner yet? You'll be suprised what they can get out!
steve@cornwall 100 Posted October 12, 2007 I was under the impression that the red carpets could not be dyed as they're a man made (plasticy ? ) carpet. I wanted to rejuvenate a faded cti carpet. Details of dyes used sucessfully would be appreciated. I've not found a stain yet that won't yield to a washing powder solution and stiff brush if it's just dirty. becomes
Anton green 12 1 Cars Posted October 12, 2007 Short answer -spray painting works. Longer answer - spray painting works but not perfectly. After changing my red carpet to a dark blue one I sprayed my center console in black to match other bits of my interior. It turned out really well. It needed a couple of coats but never turned into a dark black. It looks like a really dark purple, nearly black. The fibres dont go rock solid with the paint but instead go a bit stiff -Id imagine that spraying a large area or a full carpet would result in flat spots after a short while from where the drivers & passengers feet rest.
