Paint For Engine Block

Recommended Posts

Dave_McC

Hi

I'm in the process of rebuilding an Mi16, and in a moment of madness decided I'd paint the block whilst it was all in pieces. Ordered some POR 15 engine enamel from Frosts and followed the instructions - treating the block first with Metal Ready, washing down with water afterwards, and then brushing on the POR 15. I've now put 2 coats on, but it still looks carp - very patchy coverage and it runs very easily.

Am I applying it wrongly, or is there a better paint for the job?

Cheers

Dave

I just use plain run of the mill VHT paint, about a £4/5 a large-ish spray can from my suppliers, although i know Hammerite can be gotten away with!

I've found the stuff you put on with a brush to be better. It's thicker and doesn't run so easily. It's also easier to get into the deeper parts on the front of the block.

Good old Hammerite for me. Block was thouroughly degreased beforehand and have had no problems with it for the last year, always cleans up nicely. Cheap to :)

Just to update - bought some red engine enamel paint from Halfords and put on 2 coats yesterday - now looks like it should have done the first time around.

Moral - avoid the POR15 engine paint - it really it crap!
