Pob 1 Posted October 10, 2007 Hi all, The inner CV boot on the driver side has gone and needs replacing. On my last 205 I dismantled the drive shaft, removed the tripod joint and put the new boot on. Talking to a friend of mine, he said that the tripod isn't removable at home due to it being pressed on.... I thought the tripod was pushed on and has a clip on the end of the shaft to stop it falling off and all it needs it a tap with a hammer to get it off Could I change the boot at home without running into difficulties? He suggested the stretchy boots and use a cone, Could I just use a normal boot? Many Thanks, Dan
welshpug 1,657 Posted October 10, 2007 on the inner side they are removable, some are pressed on some are clipped, pressed on ones are easy to get off if the shaft is carefully clamped in a vice and tapped off with a suitable punch, though a vice is not 100% necessary, it just makes it easier, I;ve done it plenty of times with the shaft supported on a brick its the outer joint on a 1600 thats not removable IIRC. Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted October 10, 2007 the one i have just done is splined onto the shaft and locked in place with a little dink in the splines . i just knocked the tripod off and on refitting added a fresh 'dink' in the splines. its been a while but i seem to remember doing ones with a circlip instead of the dinky bit
