SamGTi 0 Posted October 9, 2007 When I put a new exhaust manifold onto my engine, what size nuts do I need to attach the manifold to the head (the 8 small nuts)? Is there a specific fitting kit that I have to buy or can I just buy 8 nuts of the correct size? Also, the manifold-downpipe fixings need replacing too. I presume this one is a kit (the o-gasket, 2 springs and bolts). Any idea on prices and part numbers?

I normally pay about 12 quid for the fixing kit from pug dealer, who also supply me with copper 13mm nuts to secure the manifold to the head (these don't corrode on like the stock ones) Avoid the stock 10mm nuts
SamGTi 0 Posted October 9, 2007 Avoid the stock 10mm nuts Because they round off and won't budge by any chance?
welshpug 1,657 Posted October 9, 2007 I got a fixing kit the other week, they've gone up to £14, they're an universal XU kit now as they come with 3 different length bolts to suit all the different manifiolds and downpipes. IIRC the studs are M7? or is it M8? either way you cant go wrong with the copper nuts.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted October 9, 2007 Studs are M8 & I got some 13mm copper manifold nuts from my local motor factors when I last fitted one. Downpipe kits are best getting oe ones so they stay leak free for longer. Cheap manifold to downpipe gaskets don't seem to last very long at all. Graham. welshpug 1,657 Posted October 9, 2007 bugger, I couldnt find anywhere that sold those nuts when I needed some graham! you dont happen to know what brand/supplier it was? IMO you cant beat the O.E downpipe kits, they fit so much better and last.

steve@cornwall 100 Posted October 9, 2007 Because they round off and won't budge by any chance? Indeed, then you have to knacker a perfectly good 3/8 socket, tw@tting it on! (and a spanner for the bottom centre pair)
