Solve The Plug, Where It Goes Nobody Knows!

Recommended Posts

Ethos

Hi,

Was looking in the engine bay this morning and found a plug that isn't plugged in... Now the coolant temp doesn't climb up much, infact it stays just between the 0 and the first bar so maybe its the coolant temp sensor. By the way... that is a complete guess!

Here's the plug;

and here is the lack of temp on the coolant, this is after a 30 minute drive with a bit of hooning round!;

Suggestions very welcome :D

I'd guess from the area that the plug is that its for the Throttle position Sensor maybe ?

Its been a while since I messed with an 8v though so I'm probably wrong :D

As Daz says looks like the throttle position sensor, the water temp prob will more than likely be due to the brown multplug above the gearbox. If you do a search youll find lots of topics on it.

As for the water temp being low it could be either No Thermostat or its stuck open possibly ?

What does that do, and is it bad that it's unplugged?!

I'll do a search.

Just worried that it'll overheat without being able to keep an eye on the temp, does the "STOP" sign come on tho is the coolant overheats?

I can never get the damn search to work!!

Tried searching "brown multiplug" and just a blank page comes up!

The only three pin plug on a 205 in that area is for the throttle switch.

It tells the ecu when the throttle switch is open, closed or full throttle so it changes the fuelling to suit.

Coolant temp could be either a bad connection via the brown multiplug, a broken wire from the connector or maybe the plugs for the water temperature indication & high temp warning have been crossed previously. They are at the back of the thermostat housing, see the picture attached for normal order except the blue plug might be green or yellow on your car as mine has previosuly been replaced but red will still be red iirc.

Oil temp is normal for the length of time you've been driving so the water should be OK too imo.

Graham.

I know you've just done a coolant change, did you bleed the system after, from the bleed screw above the stat housing, and the one to the heater, that goes through the bulkhead?

I bled it from the valve that goes right into the bulkhead, had that open till water came out- whilst giving the pipe a good squeeze here and there. I also left the expansion cap off for a few minutes whilst running for a couple minutes again squeezing the pipe. Seemed to be ok, been driving it since with no signs of anything wrong!

Where is the other end of this throttle plug as well, had a very quick check this morning but am guessing I might need to get underneath to find it.

Awesome, that totally helps! Going to plug it in tonight then... is there any problems I could encounter by plugging it back it!? Will it perform slightly better?

Thanks :D

Also is it on the underside, as obviously I can see it in this picture of my engine bay;

Should be interesting to get to!

Ignore that actually.... I think I can see it mounted vertically right at the front!

Thanks for the help guys, can't believe I didn't see where it went- so obvious now!

Plugged it in and went for a little drive, seems to pick up a lot nicer / feel faster although I "think" there was a slight smell of petrol.

Not sure if it really picked up any better, probably just a placebo!!
