Ethos 0 Posted October 2, 2007 Hi guys, Just flushed the coolant on my newly bought 1992 1.6 gti, it had some mayo and some oil in the coolant mix. I've obviously flushed this out and put some nice new stuff in it. There is no smoke when the car is revved up when warm and the performance is fine. Should I be worried? It's my girlfriends daily drive so want to make sure it won't die in the next week. Thanks
Ryan 99 Posted October 2, 2007 Mayo in the filler cap is normal, especially if it does a lot of short journeys. The poor design of the breathers means condensation forms in the filler and mixes with the oil vapour. Keep an eye on the oil and coolant levels, if they don't change and there isn't obviously oil in the coolant (or visa versa) then it's probably OK.

There was oil and some mayo in the coolant when I flushed it, well at least I think it was oil. It's got a new lot in there now though so I guess i'll just have to keep an eye on it. Slightly scared I bought a lemon
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted October 2, 2007 Just keep an eye on it, oil in the coolant is rare on 205s. If an headgasket goes it almost always blows between the cylinders and the water, not water and an oil way. Rob
