Finding An Oil Leak (1993 1.9 Gti)

Recommended Posts

Was just wondering if there are any known oil leak spots / bits that are known to break causing an oil leak on the engine used in a 1993 1.9GTi ?

At the moment it drips off the bottom of the sump onto the ground. Not much - if I leave it overnight then there is probably about a blokes fingertip sized puddle on the ground. It drips off either the left or right side (sometimes both) of it depending on the tilt of the car when it stands. I'd guess mostly more on the drivers side of the sump.

I know its not the distributor oil seal as thats been replaced a few weeks back as I was told it was a common oil leak problem area.

Any more ones you guys could think of?

The funny thing is, I've been keeping an eye on the oil level for a few weeks now whilst observing / diagnosing this leak and it hasn't lost any oil.

First place I'd check is the sump drain plug, should be replaced each time it's removed - but often isn't. also the engine breathers that mount just above sump level - the Pug fitted clips are sh1te!

Sump drain plug is fine - dry as a bone, but thanks for the advice on the engine breathers. Where abouts are they located? Left or right or back or front above the sump level ? (when facing the car from the front)

Thanks :)
