TaffyTim 6 Posted September 29, 2007 Who would have thought it, I ve got a newly rebuilt Mi engine in, Ive only done about 700 miles and Ive broken it already. Im not sure what has gone though. I was coming down the M3 on thurs and a very loud metal noise came from under the car. It sounded as if something had fallen off from the engine and left by bouncing loudly off the tarmac and the underneath of my car. The oil pressure and both water and oil temps remained good so i carried on but reduced the speed. 2 miles later and the same happened again and this time oily smoke came from the engine bay. I had 15 miles to go to a friends so i carried on after giving it a quick check over then go the rac to tow me home. There was plenty of oil smoke coming from the bay while driving but the gauges remained at a good level, the steering seemed a little funny, seemed alot looser when turning left. I think that oil is being spayed onto the exhaust manifold and thats whats giving the smoke, but where could this be coming from? Here are some pics, all help apreciated. smoke Is it me or is there a bolt missing in this one stained mess
gti_al 1 Posted September 29, 2007 Looks like the level sensor is missing. Maybe it was that disappearing under the car that you heard?
TaffyTim 6 Posted September 29, 2007 Ah thats good to hear, I just spoke to Miles and he said the same. Thanks Al
James_m 0 Posted September 29, 2007 The exact same thing happened to me a few months back, strangely at the same mileage on my rebuilt mi. I had the massive bang too, i thought the engine through a rod at first, then decided it had massive HG failiure I was so relieved when i found that sensor missing Just get a bolt to fill the hole. You can see it on the 3rd pic down.
