StuF215 1 1 Cars Posted September 23, 2007 Hi Having trouble with the fitment of these seals, I built the engine up myself and now im running the engine I cant get the seals on either side of the 1st main cap behind the flywheel to seal! Rear crank shaft seal is not leaking. Even more annoying cos this is now the second time im replacing them after the rebuild!! I didnt use gasket sealer when fitting them just a small amount of oil to aid fitting; and they one has split at the top. I could have sworn that they were fine when I fitted them too, maybe not! Also they have appeared to have shrunk in length (6mm) thus leading to a leak. Unless i'm missing bits and I havnt found them yet. Anyone know what im doing wrong?? Do I use gasket sealer? Its quite close to bearing at the top and dont wanna get any in there!! Thanks Stu
miamistu 1 Posted October 3, 2007 Did you ever get an answer to this from anyone? I'd be interested to know what people suggest
joelpsmith 1 Posted October 3, 2007 I have done this succesfully. Have you got a haynes manual? i think it is covered quite well. Basically, cut up a can of coke or similar so you have some strips of metal and put them up against the rubber seals and slide everything into place then just pull the metal strips out. This should stop the rubber seals getting stretched or torn when you push them in, hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
