How To Un-seize A Rear Beam?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I have just acquired a 1.9 rear beam for my 1.6.

I am in the process of cleaning it up prior to stripping and rebuilding but one side seems seized.

I am sure this has been covered a million times before but I have search for ideas and read the beam rebuild guide on the website without finding the simple answers, all this whilst tackling the usual IPS errors. :)

Do I just need to whack the arm with a dirt great big hammer? Or will this fcuk it even more? Is it beyond repair?

You get the gist, any help would be much appreciated.

I am assuming that now is the time to tackle the seizing issue as apposed to after it is stripped.

Thanks for you help; I know it is a boring question.

Or would it be better to start stripping it?

start stripping. its siezed because the bearings the radius arms turn on are knackered. if everything is k when you take it apart, it wil go back together fine but the bearing will needshould be replaced. you might still need the hammer to get it apart though.

As Miles said. U may find there are some salvageable parts but the tube is likely as f**ked as the bearings will be.

Okay, not great news but better I know now.

What is a beam going to cost? Do I go to Pug?

What else will I probably need? Trailing arms, seals, bearings, mounts......?
