Guest WestmidzJD Posted September 19, 2007 I know this is a trivial question but, i am going to look at an mi16 on 1.6 gearbox later, maybe buy if i like it. I have a 1.9 engine (k&n,manifold, rose jointed links etc...) on a 1.6 gearbox and the owner has told me that there really isnt anything between them accelerating wise as he has had the mi and my type of engine/gearbox setting before?? He says the mi picks up a lot better above 3rd gear and leaves the standard 1.9/1.6 gb Does any one have experience of both engine set ups and give me their opinions please (by the way the mi engine is healthy and totally standard so 160bhp) im confused now cheers
GLPoomobile 958 Posted September 19, 2007 I have an Mi with 1.6 box. I've also driven an Mi on a Mi box and one on a 1.9 box. The one with the 1.9 box felt no where near as ballistic as with a 1.6 or an Mi box. That's my opinion, but based on only a very small amount of time behind the wheel. Guest WestmidzJD Posted September 19, 2007 (edited) I may be selling my gutmann racing look 2 kit that is on my current 205 if i do buy this mi16, im not promising anything yet but would anyone be interested in it?? (best looking 205 kit imo) Edited September 19, 2007 by WestmidzJD
Baz 421 Posted September 19, 2007 My blue 205 is on an Mi box, 1st 2nd and 3rd very similar to a 1.6 box i'd say, 4th and 5th a little longer for comfortable motorway cruising, you're surprisingly at 110 in 4th after not very long at all so it's not bad... S33GAV 0 Posted September 19, 2007 not sure what you're asking. are you saying you have a 1.9 8v? An mi engine with those gearboxes will be the same in a straight line, with the only difference being the way the power is delivered. I've had an mi on 1.9 box and didn't like it, and have an mi with mi box and love it - it feels so much better, and feels faster - but it's not any faster in a straight line, just feels it, which is what you want

S33GAV 0 Posted September 19, 2007 of course it'll be quicker. it'll have 8 more valves and 30 odd more bhp. you'll soon feel the difference when you drive it I'm sure.
Guest WestmidzJD Posted September 19, 2007 ok, cheers, as i said im looking at it tonight so will probably find out for myself, can anyone give me any tips what to look out for (good and bad things, conversion technique etc?? if you know what i mean?

Baz 421 Posted September 19, 2007 That the conversion's been done properly, running on the correct Motronic management, no on a dizzy convertor and 8v management. Engine fitted at the correct angle. And most importantly that the shell is ok, most 205's don't rust too badly but when they do, check the sills, door shuts, inner wings (from engine bay and arches) front panel behind headlights, boot floor and under rear seats. Guest WestmidzJD Posted September 19, 2007 just wandering if anyone has a picture of what the engine bay should look like (angle of engine, dizzy etc..)???
Baz 421 Posted September 19, 2007 There shouldn't be a dizzy as such, and the ecu, under driver's side dash, should say 'MOTRONIC' acroos it, that'll be a clue if it's running the right management!
S33GAV 0 Posted September 19, 2007 Also nice to post a pic of the engine bay
