Does anyone have experience with these steel flywheels from www.ttvracing.com

There is one for sale on e-bay for a Gti-6 that looks rarther nice. But they also do one for a TU5.

Price seems quite reasonable compared to a peugeot sport one for example

Anthony

That looks very similar to the one my friend got as part of a group buy on the GTI-6 forum, and I'd guess the one for sale is probably either one from that group buy or one the same - looked like a nice enough bit of kit from the quick glance I had, and seemed fairly light as well. He's not used it yet as his engine build is on-going, so can't really say anymore than that.

I see demon tweaks actually sell them too. Although not peugeot ones... SO I guess they can't be that bad??

Anthony the person selling on e-bay is actually the manufacturer..

For that price I'm interested.

i dont think many people really look at the flywheel as a performance upgrade so its rare to find someone with a lightweight steel one.

Matt@QEP has been able to supply these for several years now .

and his don't have those circular holes, which is a bit better strength wise, or so i've read somewhere.

Sam

Interestingly my BTCC 5.5" flywheel isn't hugely lighter than the standard item.

hey Sam. Lets compare flywheels lol My touring car one seems really quite light though I havent weighed it against a standard one. Is yours quite thick then to give it a lot of strength?

Well yes, but it's not the weigth itself that matters, its how it's distributed.

One interesting view of all this can be seen with simple experiment. Sit it a rotating office chair, take 2 fitness weigths, each in one arm and then rotate Yourself.

While rotating extend hands away from You, and then put back again (weights touching Your body),

Cheers

christopher> ah yeah, his might have been aluminium as you say, but i thought that would be good enough for you? :)

sam & batfink> 406 touring car technician told me their engine (one of the last evolutions iirc) doesn't have flywheel at all.

how does that work then??? Surely you need something for the clutch to work on? Unless they dont have a clutch with the sequential box and just mash it through the gears using the dog engagement....
