Painting The Rocker Cover

Recommended Posts

eob

I've decided to start at the top on the Mi and work my way down, refurbing and polishing as I go, as a result, I've started at the rocker cover

As it stands, the existing rocker cover is fairly chipped and sore looking so I want to take all the old black stuff off. The question is... how? :D I've tried heating it with a heatgun and that sort of thing. I've tried neat citric acid. I've tried standing around looking at it. Nothing works.

Anyone done it?

And when you did strip the black stuff off, what do you paint on?

You rock ablister. I'm presuming by paint stripper you mean common garden Nitromors?

Nitromors should work fine. Use some rough sandpaper on it first, and it should help the stripper to penetrate through more easily.

Get youself some wire wool to scrub it off with takes a few goes at it but it does work. Or you could get it sand blasted

nitromors will strip it easily enough.

Don't sandblast it! It's magnesium, won't stand up to it that well!!

I Nitromors'd mine then used primer and Hammerite, chips off fairly easily though, not that impressed with Hammerite these days...
