Which Engine Is This

hello as im new to the 205 world i need help on which engine i have in the car is it a TU or a XU engine ...

 

Which haynes manual will i need to do a strip down of the bottom end

 

here is a pic of the lump

its a earlier mi16 the 1.9 alloy block rather than the later 2.0ltr iron block.

either way its still an xu engine in this case the engine code is xu9j4

its also running bike carbs by the looks of things

for the engine a 405 haynes manual should cover it

No! Don't do that. Get on ebay and find the purple 405 manual from about 1992, it's much better than that crap blue newer 405 manual that tries to cover to many engines and anything more complicated than checking the oil level and they say "We can't be arsed to describe this proceedure therefore we suggest this job is encrusted to a Peugeot dealer".

The Citroen BX manual is also good as it has a whole chapter devoted to the 16v engine.
