Help! My Main Bearing Cap Is Stuck!

howdy peeps, im just tearing down the Mi ready for its rebuild, and im really struggling to get the center main cap off, anyone got any tips?

I'm no expert, but I believe the centre cap is cross bolted. i.e. there are bolts going 'sideways' into it, as well as the two main ones.

correct! i spent about 20 mins doing the same thing last weekend, pulling the b#stard thing with a set of molegrips until i realised there was a bolt on the front and back of the block holding it in place ^_^

Anyone happen to have any pictures of the location of these please!!!!

 

I take it this is for a XU engine and not an Mi ? or are they the same?

Mi is an XU engine.

 

This applies to all the alloy block engines. The bolts are directly to the front on the block and to the rear in little recesses. The front one is just to the right of the oil filter.

Yeh they are all the same, they are just near the base of the block in a slight recess two 13mm head m8's from memory.

Thanks guys just had a re read of the good copy of a Haynes manual I have a home on the book shelf and there is even a picture of the bolts they are removing.

 

Thanks for the quick replies. on the last of the strip down now as I finished the head earlier today!!!
